"I wish that every day was Saturday and every month was October."
I recently came across this quote, and doesn’t it perfectly capture the essence of this gorgeous month? In the South, Saturdays mean one thing: football. In my home, that means Gamecock football! October is the perfect month at the beach, with flawless weather for everything you want to do—from soaking up the sun by the beach, pool, or river to grilling out, biking, or throwing a tailgate party. It’s the best of Lowcountry living, a charm we all share and celebrate.
In our neck of the woods, October is marked by a stunning transformation: our salt creeks and marshes start showing off their fall hues. The "R" months bring oysters back into season, and fishing couldn’t be better. October also means Landolfi’s is reopens – IYKYK! And a fun fact: since my birthday often lands on Columbus Day, I like to think of it as a federal holiday just for me! Plus, homes start donning spooky decor as we welcome Halloween and the festive season that follows. But what truly makes this month special are the local festivals, community events, and celebrations in full swing. It’s like Oktoberfest all month long across Pawleys Island, Georgetown, and Murrells Inlet, where locals reclaim their favorite spots at beloved date-night restaurants. It’s my favorite month of the year!
