Bringing the Magic Back to Halloween
Halloween is one of the most exciting nights of the year for kids — costumes, candy, and neighborhood fun. But for families managing food allergies, it can also be one of the most stressful. A single piece of candy can pose a serious risk, leaving many children unable to fully join in on the trick-or-treat excitement.
That’s where the Teal Pumpkin Project comes in — an initiative supported by Miss America’s Teen to raise awareness for food allergies and make Halloween safer and more inclusive for everyone.
What’s the Teal Pumpkin Project?
The idea is simple but powerful: place a teal pumpkin on your porch to show you’re offering non-food treats — things like glow sticks, stickers, bubbles, or small toys. These fun, allergen-free options allow children with food allergies (and other dietary restrictions) to enjoy trick-or-treating just like their friends.
Why It Matters
According to FARE (Food Allergy Research & Education), one in 13 children in the U.S. has a food allergy. That means nearly every classroom — and likely every neighborhood — includes kids who face this daily challenge. The Teal Pumpkin Project helps bring the magic back to Halloween night by letting every child participate without fear.
How to Join In
Getting involved is easy — and it makes a big impact:
-
Add your home to the Teal Pumpkin Project Map so families in your area can find safe stops along their trick-or-treat route.

Place a teal pumpkin or one of FARE’s free printable signs outside your home to show you’re participating.
-
Offer non-food treats in a separate bowl — think small toys, pencils, glow bracelets, or stickers.
Every teal pumpkin on a porch sends a message of inclusion, kindness, and community spirit — something we can all get behind here on the South Strand.
This October, let’s help make Halloween magical for every child. 🎃✨
