Do you remember the famous commencement address from DJ Gallo, centered on how most NCAA athletes end up going pro in something other than sports? It has a lighthearted tone that pokes fun at the idea that most do not end up on the roster of a professional sports team—and how ending up in the business world might not have been a childhood dream for many.
For those of us who never made an All-Star team and have been among the rank and file of the business community for years, however, landing a former student-athlete is definitely a cause for celebration. It may be obvious to say that making it onto an NCAA team takes determination, discipline, patience, resilience, perseverance, follow-through, and a host of other intangibles that are essential for success in business.
This is partially why I am so pleased to announce the latest addition to my team, Hannah Fesperman, as she exemplifies all of these qualities. Hannah attended Lander University on a golf scholarship and, I think it’s important to point out that, after graduation, she CHOSE to return to this area to embark on a career in real estate.
As most of you already know, there are very few sports that teach patience, humility, strategy, and integrity like the game of golf. Hannah has a talent for quickly assessing a situation that is well beyond her years. Also, as a former collegiate athlete, she is very coachable and willing to try new things—all traits that will serve her and her clients well.
Getting to such an elite level on the golf course takes supreme attention to detail. Hannah has a desire to learn and not just do “well,” but EXCEL. She jumps on tasks and projects without hesitation, and I can already tell that cutting corners is not in her vocabulary.
It’s also worth pointing out that Hannah has managed social media campaigns in the past and has a level of comfort with technology that will not only facilitate more effective communications with our clients but also add to our marketing capabilities. She brings a fresh, forward-thinking approach and a ton of energy; I guess it’s obvious I am very excited to have her on the team.
